Spotify Premium Family vs YouTube Premium Family
Both are worth splitting — but not equally. Here's how they stack up on seats, price and savings (prices shown in USD; open the savings calculator for your own country).
| Plan | Seats | Solo price | Per seat | Saved / year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify Premium Family | 6 | $11.99/mo | $4.21/mo | $93.30 |
| YouTube Premium Family | 6 | $13.99/mo | $5.17/mo | $105.80 |
The short answer
YouTube Premium is the bigger cheque and the bigger saving: it removes ads across all of YouTube and throws in YouTube Music, so a household that already watches YouTube daily gets two services for one seat.
Which should you split first?
Split YouTube Premium first if anyone in the group watches YouTube on a TV. Split Spotify first if the group cares about playlists, podcasts and Wrapped — Spotify's recommendations are still better and the app is lighter.
- Spotify Premium Family — 6 seats, 65% off retail per seat.
- YouTube Premium Family — 6 seats, 63% off retail per seat.
- Hosting either plan pays you back: your own seat is effectively free once the family fills.
What to watch out for
You almost never need both music services. Decide as a family which one is the music app, and keep the other seat for something else.
Full setup instructions and the household rules for each are in the Spotify Premium Family guide and the YouTube Premium Family guide.
