Disney+ Just Made the Solo Subscription the Worst Deal in Streaming (2026)
Existing Disney+ and Hulu subscribers start paying the new, higher prices on bills dated October 21, 2026, onward. Disney+ Premium and Hulu Premium each jumped from $18.99 to $21.49 a month - yet the Disney+/Hulu bundle costs just 50 cents more than one service, with ads or without.

The short version
Existing Disney+ and Hulu subscribers start paying the new, higher prices on bills dated today, October 21, 2026, onward. Disney+ Premium and Hulu Premium each jumped from $18.99 to $21.49 a month. Here is the strange part: the Disney+/Hulu bundle costs just 50 cents more than one service, with ads or without. If you pay for either one alone, change your plan before your next bill.
Fifty cents. That is the whole story.
Disney+ or Hulu alone with ads now costs $12.49 a month. The Disney+/Hulu bundle with ads costs $12.99. Without ads, either service alone is $21.49. The bundle is $21.99.
In both cases, the second entire streaming service costs you half a dollar. Disney has priced the standalone subscription like a penalty for not bundling. Nobody who buys this honestly needs to ask which is the better deal. The bundle is the better deal. That is the point.
Every new Disney+ and Hulu price, in one table
The new rates took effect for new subscribers on September 23, 2026. Existing subscribers see them on their first billing cycle on or after October 21, 2026, which means some of you are reading this on the day the old prices die.
| Plan | Old price | New price |
|---|---|---|
| Disney+ with Ads | $11.99 | $12.49 |
| Disney+ Premium (no ads) | $18.99 | $21.49 |
| Hulu with Ads | $11.99 | $12.49 |
| Hulu (No Ads) | $18.99 | $21.49 |
| Disney+ and Hulu bundle, with ads | $12.99 | $12.99 (unchanged) |
| Disney+ and Hulu bundle, Premium | $19.99 | $21.99 |
| Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select bundle | $19.99 | $21.99 |
| Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select bundle Premium | $29.99 | $32.99 |
Prices are monthly and US. Disney+ Premium also has a $214.99 annual option if you want to pay for the whole year and stop thinking about it.
The one-year trajectory is worth sitting with. Disney+ launched in November 2019 at $6.99 a month. The ad-free plan has since risen more than 200 percent. Apple's streaming service launched at the same time for $4.99 and is now $14.99, also up about 200 percent. This is the whole industry's playbook, not a Disney invention. But Disney is executing it with unusual clarity: every price move nudges you toward the bundle and toward ads.
Why Disney wants you on the bundle (and why your wallet should listen)
This price round landed while Disney+ and Hulu's operating income more than doubled year over year to $712 million, with the company previously acknowledging that earlier subscription price increases helped the numbers. The hikes are not a rescue mission. They are a business doing well and deciding to do better.
The strategy is an open secret at this point. Variety and MacRumors read the change as a deliberate push toward bundles and ad-supported plans, and the pricing table agrees: the one plan that did not move is the ad-supported bundle at $12.99. Disney has been merging Hulu content into the Disney+ app to build one all-in-one experience, and it would very much like you inside that experience, watching ads, on a plan it barely has to raise because advertisers pay part of your bill.
None of this is your problem. Your problem is only which row of that table you are on. So here is the math, by situation.
If you pay for one service, get both
Paying $12.49 for Disney+ with ads alone is now the least defensible subscription in streaming. The bundle is $12.99. For $6 a year, you add Hulu's entire catalog: The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, Shogun, the FX library. The same holds ad-free: $21.49 alone, $21.99 for both. There is no scenario where one service at these prices beats the bundle at a fifty-cent premium, unless you genuinely never open the other app and fifty cents a month keeps you up at night.
If you pay for both ad-free services separately, stop today
Two standalone Premium plans run $21.49 plus $21.49: $42.98 a month. The Premium bundle is $21.99. Switching saves $20.99 a month, which is $251.88 a year, for the exact same two services. You are paying double for nothing. This is the single easiest streaming bill cut available right now, and it expires for you on whatever day your billing cycle rolls over.
If you cannot stand ads, this is still your best bad option
Ad-free Disney+ now costs $21.49, above Netflix's $19.99 Standard plan. That stings. The bundle at $21.99 keeps you ad-free on both services for a dollar less than adding one standalone Hulu plan on top of one standalone Disney+ plan. Going annual on Disney+ Premium ($214.99) brings the effective monthly rate to about $17.92, if you trust yourself to keep it for a year.
How to switch before the higher charge lands
Changes made now apply before your first bill at the new rate, since existing subscribers are billed the new prices only from their first cycle on or after October 21. On Disney+:
- Log in at DisneyPlus.com, open your profile, then Account.
- Under Your Plans & Billing, choose Change next to your subscription and pick the bundle.
- If someone else bills you (Hulu, Apple, Google, Amazon, or a carrier), make the change with them instead.
What about sharing? The honest answer
A Disney+ subscription covers one household: the devices at your primary residence, used by the people who live there. One account allows up to 7 profiles and up to 4 simultaneous streams.
If someone outside your household wants in, the official route is the Extra Member add-on: $6.99 a month for Disney+ Basic or $9.99 a month for Premium (bundle variants cost a bit more). Only one extra member per account, they must be 18 or older, in the same country, and they stream to one device at a time. Hulu runs the same program at $6.99 with ads or $9.99 ad-free, with 2 simultaneous streams on the main plan.
That is what Disney's terms say, and the terms are worth knowing because Disney is enforcing them: watching on a TV outside your primary household can eventually trigger a block or a paid-sharing prompt. Mobile viewing while traveling still works, usually with a one-time passcode. The people who split accounts outside a household anyway are playing against those rules with eyes open. The people who split the bundle with people they actually live with, four streams, seven profiles, that is just using the plan as designed.
Here is where the bundle math gets even friendlier for sharers. A $21.99 Premium bundle split across two people who genuinely share a household is $11 a month each, for ad-free Disney+ and Hulu. The Extra Member add-on exists precisely because Disney knows sharing is how people afford these prices. It would rather tax the sharing than pretend it stopped it.
The bottom line
Disney's prices went up, Disney's profits went up faster, and the standalone subscription is now priced like a trap. Existing subscribers start paying the new rates today. Check which row of the table you are on, and if it is a standalone row, switch before your billing cycle does it for you. Disney now charges you $21.49 to watch alone and $21.99 to watch everything. Choose everything.
